Drawdown is the rule that decides how much room you really have. This page compares static, trailing, intraday, end-of-day, daily, and max loss rules across checked prop firm sources so you can spot the rows that can trip you up before you buy or size a trade.

What Drawdown Type Changes

A static drawdown floor is fixed from the starting balance. A trailing drawdown floor moves up after profits and usually never moves back down. Daily loss limits are separate day-by-day limits; maximum loss or maximum drawdown is the account survival floor.

Intraday vs End-of-Day Trailing

Intraday trailing can tighten while a trade is still open because unrealized profit can raise the peak. End-of-day trailing usually waits for the closing balance to set the next floor, but the floor can still be enforced in real time once set. Closed-balance trailing sits between those models because only closed profit raises the floor.

Mini trailing drawdown simulator

Intraday post-day floor$50,100Uses session peak.
EOD post-day floor$50,100Uses close balance.
Distance to breach at close$2,500Locked at start + $100.

Simulator caveat: this is a simplified floor model, not a firm liquidation engine. Real intraday, EOD, withdrawal, reset, and platform rules can differ. Seed example: a 50K account with a $2,500 trailing amount and start + $100 lock reaches a $50,100 floor after a $52,600 EOD balance. Use the full drawdown calculator for a deeper check.

Per official source: locks at $100 plus the initial starting balance. How to read the table

  • Intraday trail: the floor can move during the session, often from unrealized profit. Give these rows extra room if you hold volatile trades.
  • EOD trail: the floor usually updates from the end-of-day balance. It can still be enforced in real time after the floor is set.
  • Static: the max-loss floor is fixed from the start. Daily loss rules can still breach the account before max loss matters.
  • Conditional lock: the lock depends on account stage, platform, product, or a source detail that does not apply to every account under the brand.
  • Needs re-check: an official page gave some values, but not enough mechanics to treat the row as complete.

Common mistakes

  1. Treating all trailing drawdown as the same. A 50K account with a $2,000 EOD trail and a 50K account with a $2,000 intraday trail do not behave the same.
  2. Assuming every lock is universal. Apex is the clearest example: the checked source says Performance Accounts stop at start + $100, while Tradovate Evaluations trail indefinitely.
  3. Ignoring daily loss limits. A daily limit can pause or breach an account even when the max drawdown has room left. Use the daily-loss page when that column matters.
  4. Withdrawing into the floor. Some lock models protect the floor, but withdrawals can still leave too little buffer above it.

How We Checked This

Freshness note: table rules were checked against official sources on July 2, 2026. Values can change; use the source link before buying or changing risk.

BestProps checked official help-center, terms, and program pages first. Third-party ranking pages and SERP results were used for search-intent context, not for firm-specific rule values. Rows are scoped to the named program when the source is program-specific. If a source did not confirm a calculation or lock behavior, the row says so instead of inferring it.
