Why prop firms restrict Burundi traders

The United States terminated its Burundi-specific sanctions emergency in November 2021. Current firm restrictions should therefore not be described as proof that every Burundi resident is under a blanket U.S. ban. Firms may instead rely on their own risk policy and the geographic coverage of brokers, clearing firms, data vendors, identity providers, payment processors, and payout partners.

BestProps applies the restriction at the whole-profile level. A company is not counted when its futures program blocks Burundi but a crypto or CFD program under the same BestProps profile still accepts the country.

Burundi foreign exchange and payment access

Burundi’s central bank publishes a current foreign-exchange framework, a regulated interbank currency market, and a list of licensed exchange bureaus. A resident paying an overseas prop firm may need an authorized bank or payment provider, supporting documents, and a permitted foreign-currency route even when the firm’s own checkout page appears available.

The Banque de la République du Burundi launched BurundiPay in April 2026 as a national instant-payment system linking bank accounts, microfinance institutions, payment companies, and mobile wallets. That improves domestic interoperability, but it does not automatically make an overseas prop merchant or foreign reward provider reachable through the system.

Burundi also has a local Treasury-securities market administered under central-bank rules. Participating in Treasury bills or bonds through the prescribed local channel is legally and operationally different from purchasing a simulated prop evaluation from an overseas company.

A prop account normally displays simulated market positions. The trader does not own the futures contract, currency, security, or cryptoasset shown on screen, and a potential reward depends on the firm’s contract, trading rules, identity review, and payout process.

Before buying an evaluation from Burundi, verify citizenship and residence eligibility, the accepted identity documents, the card or bank route, and the named payout provider. Save the policy, agreement, payment record, and payout terms, then obtain qualified local advice about tax and foreign-exchange treatment.

What Burundi traders should check before checkout

  • Confirm that both citizenship and residence are eligible.
  • Check the evaluation, simulated funded, live-funded, and payout rules separately.
  • Use your real address and identity documents. A VPN does not change KYC eligibility.
  • Confirm the payout provider supports your country and expected currency.
  • Save a dated copy of the policy and checkout terms before paying.
  • Confirm local foreign-exchange, tax, securities, and crypto rules with a qualified professional.

Burundi prop firm restrictions FAQ

How many prop firms restrict traders from Burundi?

BestProps verified 21 current firms with a complete restriction affecting at least one market covered on this page.

Does a restricted country always block the evaluation purchase?

Most policies on this page block new accounts or platform access. Some firms also consider citizenship, travel location, payout access, or the live-account stage, so the official policy remains the final source.

Are partial country limits included in the main list?

No. A firm that still allows an evaluation, simulated funded account, or payouts is not counted as completely restricted merely because its live-account path or one platform is unavailable.

Can a VPN make a restricted trader eligible?

No. Firms verify identity, residence, payment details, and login patterns. Concealing location can lead to account closure, payout denial, or loss of fees.

Are prop firm payouts treated like local brokerage gains?

Not necessarily. Evaluation payouts may be contractual or business income rather than gains from securities held in a brokerage account. Ask a local tax professional and keep complete records.

When did BestProps check these country policies?

The official sources on this page were checked on August 8, 2026. Recheck them immediately before purchase because firms and service providers can change eligibility lists.
