Research basis and limitations

TL;DR: ThinkCapital offers simulated FX and CFD-style programs through the one-step Lightning, two-step Dual Step, and three-step Nexus evaluations, plus a separately governed Bolt instant-funded route. On August 15, 2026, the official 5K cards displayed Lightning at $59, Dual Step Intraday at $59, Dual Step Swing at $82, and Nexus at $39. Lightning uses a 10% target, 3% balance-based daily drawdown, and 6% trailing maximum drawdown. Dual Step uses 9% and 5% targets with 4% daily drawdown, while Nexus uses 7%, 6%, and 5% targets with 4% daily and 8% fixed maximum drawdown. Standard funded payouts are bi-weekly with an 80% split; checkout add-ons or scaling can change the cycle to weekly and the split to 90%.

ThinkCapital review verdict

ThinkCapital gives traders several ways to trade the same broad simulated FX and CFD market through different evaluation lengths. Lightning compresses the evaluation into one phase but uses a trailing maximum drawdown. Dual Step splits the target across two phases and offers separate Intraday and Swing rule sets. Nexus adds a third phase in exchange for lower phase targets and a lower displayed entry price at the 5K selection.

The main decision is not simply one step versus three. Traders need to compare the drawdown calculation, news and weekend permissions, number of phases, add-on costs, payout cadence, platform eligibility, and country result as one package. ThinkCapital's official terms say its challenge and funded accounts use simulated trading, so advertised account size should not be read as a cash balance deposited for the trader.

ThinkCapital programs and current cost

ThinkCapital route Displayed 5K price Evaluation targets Daily drawdown Maximum drawdown
Lightning $59 10% in one phase 3% balance based 6% trailing, locks at the initial balance after 6% growth
Dual Step Intraday $59 9% then 5% 4% equity based 7% fixed in evaluation and 8% fixed when funded
Dual Step Swing $82 9% then 5% 4% balance based 7% fixed in evaluation and 8% fixed when funded
Nexus $39 7%, 6%, then 5% 4% balance based 8% fixed to the starting balance

These prices were visible with the 5K selection on the official program pages. They are a dated page display, not a quote for every account size, location, currency, or add-on combination. ThinkCapital's general process page says account sizes range from 5K to 200K. The controlling total is the amount and rule set shown for the exact order at checkout.

ThinkCapital also references Bolt as an instant-funded account in its current terms, platform guidance, and regional eligibility notice. Bolt is not interchangeable with the three evaluation programs. It has separate onboarding, instrument, consistency, drawdown, and payout terms. A buyer considering Bolt should review its own checkout card and agreement instead of borrowing Lightning or Dual Step rules.

ThinkCapital rules and drawdown

Lightning requires a 10% target, at least three trading days, a 3% balance-based daily drawdown, and a 6% trailing maximum drawdown. The maximum drawdown stops trailing at the starting balance once the account has grown by 6%. Weekend trading and holding are listed as allowed. The official program page says news trading is restricted by a four-minute window unless the applicable add-on changes the rule.

Dual Step uses 9% and 5% targets with at least three trading days and no published maximum number of days. The Intraday model calculates its 4% daily limit from equity and does not allow news trading, weekend trading, or weekend holding. The Swing model calculates the 4% daily limit from balance and allows those activities by default. Both show a 7% fixed maximum loss during evaluation and 8% after funding.

Nexus uses three targets of 7%, 6%, and 5%, a 4% balance-based daily drawdown, and an 8% maximum drawdown fixed to the initial balance. The page lists weekend trading and holding as allowed, while news trading requires an add-on. All three routes require at least one trade every 30 days to remain active.

ThinkCapital payouts and funded rules

ThinkCapital's current program cards show an 80% standard split and a path to 90% through scaling or an add-on. Standard simulated funded accounts use a 14-day payout cycle measured from the first trade. A weekly payout add-on changes the interval to seven days for the life of the active funded account.

The payout FAQ says all positions must be closed when a request is submitted. It lists USDT, Rise, and a ThinkMarkets personal live account as possible methods, with location limits on the ThinkMarkets route. ThinkCapital says requests are processed within three business days, after which receipt may take another 24 to 48 hours and some bank transfers may take up to five business days.

The same FAQ says a payout must be at least $100 to cover transaction charges, even though it also uses the phrase "no minimum payout limit." Treat $100 as the practical request threshold unless the dashboard shows a different controlling value. Processing time, payout eligibility, and the date money arrives are separate events.

ThinkCapital platforms and country access

ThinkCapital's public platform FAQ centers on ThinkTrader with TradingView integration. Current terms also discuss MT5 support, including Expert Advisor rules. Platform availability can depend on the program, account age, add-ons, and location. United States customers are limited to ThinkTrader under the current terms, so they should not assume that every platform shown elsewhere is available to them.

The official eligibility FAQ lists restricted countries and applies those restrictions to both residents and citizens. It also says customers in Malaysia, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Indonesia may buy only the Bolt route, not Lightning, Dual Step, or Nexus. That is a product restriction, not full approval of every other service or payout method. Check residency, citizenship, sanctions status, platform access, and payout rails before checkout.

Who ThinkCapital may fit

  • Traders who want to choose among one-step, two-step, and three-step evaluations.
  • Swing traders who need weekend holding and are prepared to use the Dual Step Swing rules.
  • Traders who prefer a fixed maximum drawdown on Dual Step or Nexus rather than Lightning's trailing rule.
  • Traders who use ThinkTrader or TradingView and have confirmed platform availability in their location.

Who should compare ThinkCapital alternatives

  • Traders who need one rule set across all account types and platforms.
  • Buyers who do not want add-ons to change payout timing, split, or news permissions.
  • Traders whose strategy conflicts with the Lightning trailing drawdown or Dual Step Intraday restrictions.
  • Residents or citizens in a restricted country, or a Bolt-only country seeking another evaluation route.

ThinkCapital BestProps assessment

ThinkCapital's program range is useful because each route changes a meaningful part of the evaluation. Lightning reduces the phase count but makes the maximum loss trail. Dual Step offers the clearest style choice through its Intraday and Swing variants. Nexus lowers the displayed 5K entry price and spreads the target across three phases, but passing takes three separate accounts or stages.

The firm publishes most core rule fields, yet buyers still need to preserve the exact checkout state. A $39 Nexus card cannot be compared fairly with an $82 Dual Step Swing card without including the extra phase, news and weekend rules, drawdown method, payout add-ons, and expected cost of another attempt. The shortest or cheapest route is not automatically the easiest fit.

What to verify before buying ThinkCapital

  • The program, account size, currency, base fee, promotion, and every selected add-on.
  • The phase targets, minimum days, daily drawdown basis, maximum drawdown type, and reset time.
  • News, overnight, weekend, Expert Advisor, copy-trading, and prohibited-strategy rules.
  • The standard or upgraded split, first payout date, request interval, minimum request, method, and fees.
  • ThinkTrader, TradingView, or MT5 availability for the selected program and location.
  • Residency, citizenship, KYC, sanctions status, and any Bolt-only regional restriction.
