Best Prop Firms With Free Trials, and What Each Leads To

Free trials at E8 Markets, FundedNext, SabioTrade, FTMO and City Traders Imperium compared on rules, signup and what they lead to, plus free competitions and offers that look free but are not.

Document-based research and editorial review. Last reviewed October 5, 2026 41 min read

Key takeaways

A free trial tells you whether you can pass the rules it copies, not the funded rules that end most accounts, and it never pays. We checked 28 firms: 16 with a free offer, and 12 more without one. Most faithful: E8 Markets Free Trial. Most repeatable: FundedNext. The free routes that can pay are tiny (BrightFunded $1K), promotional (trader2B) or need your own money (Axi Select).

Prop firms with free trials: a trading desk with a chart, a gift tag with a Free? sticker, a padlock, an empty wallet and question-mark badges

Freshness: Every trial term, price and Trustpilot count was checked on each firm’s own pages on September 30, 2026; Alpha Capital Group’s checkout and prices were checked again on October 3, 2026. Confirm on the firm’s site first.

Quick picks for prop firms with free trials in 2026

  • Most faithful free trial: E8 Markets Free Trial, “the same rules, and the same scoring” as E8 One.
  • Cheapest first paid attempt after a ranked trial: FundingPips 2 Step Pro 50K, $249 list.
  • Most loss room per dollar after a ranked trial: FundedNext Stellar 2-Step 50K, $60.00 per $1,000 ($299.99 for a $5,000 static floor).
  • Most repeatable: FundedNext Free Trial, rejoin every 14 days, any size from $6K to $200K.
  • Best free competition: FundingPips Monthly Competition, 2 Step Pro prizes up to $100K.

Five kinds of free at prop firms with free trials

The first three never pay; the fourth can; the fifth pays in accounts.

  1. Faithful practice trial: the paid rules, no payout (E8 Markets, FundingPips).
  2. Softened practice trial: a lower target or fewer phases (FundedNext, SabioTrade, FTMO, HyroTrader, and Alpha Capital Group’s documented trial).
  3. Platform preview: software only, no rules (City Traders Imperium, Audacity Capital).
  4. Free funding path: a free challenge leading to an account that can pay (BrightFunded, trader2B).
  5. Competition: a leaderboard whose prizes are mostly challenge accounts.

Not free: a fee refund (you pay first) and a no-fee programme that needs your own deposit. Swap-free means no overnight interest, not free; see swap-free prop firms.

How we ranked prop firms with free trials

Five-step ranking process behind our prop firms with free trials list: fees, rules checked on evaluation and funded, payout terms, Trustpilot sentiment and the firm’s own videos
The five checks behind every ranking in the Prop Trader’s Guide.

We read each trial’s signup, length, rules and outcome, then priced and graded the paid product it previews at 50K.

  1. Ranked: a practice trial you can start now whose paid product has no serious catch. Order: faithful, then softened, then platform preview. Within a class, the lower cost per $1,000 of loss room wins: the 50K list price plus any activation fee, divided by the smallest max-loss floor at any stage, times 1,000. None of these one-time products names an activation fee. Promos never enter the order. A live-account call-up is a warning, named in the firm’s block, never a reason to leave this list.
  2. Documented, not offered: a trial the firm’s help centre describes but its checkout did not offer when we looked (Alpha Capital Group). It gets a full block and table rows, but no rank.
  3. Serious catch: the paid or free-funded product has a real catch: a floor that trails open profit, an account-ender you cannot read before signup, or a firm-confirmed discretionary payout refusal.

Why cost per $1,000 and not the sticker price: a $249 challenge with a $3,000 floor gives less room to be wrong than a $299.99 challenge with a $5,000 floor. On sticker price FundingPips beats FundedNext; per $1,000 of loss room FundedNext costs $60.00 against FundingPips’ $83.00. The class still comes first, because a faithful trial rehearses the exact paid rules and a softened one does not.

Demo vs funded, what a prop firm free trial can and cannot show

Diagram for prop firms with free trials titled Free for what: four lanes from a FREE gate end at a No payouts wall, a trophy with a Challenge ticket, a narrow bridge over a trailing floor, and a wallet
Four kinds of free lead to four different places: a wall, a challenge ticket, a narrow bridge, or your own wallet.

Trials never pay. E8: trial users are “not eligible to receive any payouts.” City Traders Imperium: “You cannot get payouts from the trial.”

“Funded” rarely means live money either. FundingPips: “All accounts provided by FundingPips are demo accounts,” and “No actual trades are executed on live financial markets.” FTMO: “all accounts provided by FTMO are demo accounts using fictitious capital.” E8 calls its accounts simulated and says any live market trading “is conducted entirely outside the scope of E8 Funding LLC.” The difference between a trial and a funded account is not the market feed but the payout: the firm pays you a share of the simulated profit once you pass its paid evaluation and its review. Audacity Capital is an outlier: its Knowledge Center says funded accounts are live, while its site footer calls the setup simulated.

Every trial stops at the evaluation, so none shows the funded rules that end most accounts. Even the most faithful trials, E8 Markets and FundingPips, preview funded stages that add rules the trial never runs. Treat a pass as proof you can hit a target, not keep an account.

Markets fork early: trials cover forex and CFD, crypto (HyroTrader, E8 Terminal) and US stocks (trader2B), never futures. Beginners should read prop firms for beginners.

Who each kind of free fits: a faithful trial (E8 Markets, FundingPips) suits a trader who already has a strategy and wants to rehearse the exact paid targets and loss limits before paying, since passing it tells you almost nothing new about the funded stage. A softened trial (FundedNext, SabioTrade, FTMO, Alpha Capital Group, HyroTrader) suits someone comparing a firm’s execution, spreads and platform quality cheaply, because the easier target makes a pass a weak signal for the harder paid product. A platform preview (City Traders Imperium, Audacity Capital) suits a trader who has already picked a ruleset elsewhere and only wants to test software and fills. A free funding path (BrightFunded) or a competition (FundedNext, FundingPips, Alpha Capital Group, FXIFY, The5ers, Velotrade) suits someone willing to accept a small account or long odds for a real shot at capital with no fee at risk.

What the paid step after a free trial costs per $1,000 of loss room

A free trial saves you nothing until you buy the product it previews, so this is the number that decides what the trial is worth. Each row divides the 50K list price, plus any activation fee, by the smallest max-loss floor at any stage, then multiplies by 1,000. A lower figure means more room to be wrong for each dollar you pay.

Three things move a firm on this measure. Floor size: FundedNext and FTMO give $5,000 of room at 50K, FundingPips, E8, SabioTrade and Alpha $3,000, City Traders Imperium $2,500. Floor type: a static floor stays put, while E8, SabioTrade and City Traders Imperium trail the highest closed balance and FTMO’s 1-Step trails the end-of-day balance, so the room shrinks as you make money (E8’s floor locks at the starting balance; City Traders Imperium does not publish a lock). Retries: FundingPips sells a Phase 1 reset at $199.20 if you buy within 7 days of the breach, FundedNext a $269.99 reset, City Traders Imperium 15% off; the rest charge full price again.

A worked case for a trader who expects to need two attempts: at FundingPips the second try costs $199.20 through the reset, so two attempts cost $448.20. At FundedNext a reset is $269.99, so two attempts cost $569.98, but each gives $5,000 of room against FundingPips’ $3,000. At SabioTrade, with no reset product, two attempts cost $678. For the odds behind a second attempt, see our risk-of-ruin calculator.

Fee refunds matter more than the split at this size. FundedNext refunds the $299.99 with the first reward, so a trader keeps the full $2,000, more than at FundingPips ($1,751) despite the higher sticker price. FTMO’s 1-Step pays 90% but never refunds, and its 50% best-day rule means no single day may carry more than $1,250 of the $2,500. City Traders Imperium refunds only at a 10% funded profit ($5,000 at 50K), so a 5% first payout leaves the fee unrecovered.

After the first payout, splits rise at some firms: FTMO’s Scaling Plan lifts the 2-Step split to 90%; FundedNext pays 90% after scale-up and 95% with its paid Lifetime add-on; City Traders Imperium pays 90% at Bronze VIP and 100% at Silver VIP; HyroTrader’s FAQ reaches 90% after 16 months; Audacity’s Ability accounts go from 75% to 90% as profit grows. FundingPips’ Monthly cycle pays 100% from the start, with stricter consistency rules. For a wider view of passing, see how to pass a prop firm challenge.

Ranked prop firms with free trials, most faithful first

FundingPips Free Trial is a faithful prop firm free trial

Verdict: The cheapest ranked trial to attempt paid: “Real market conditions. Real rules,” matching the paid 2 Step Standard or 2 Step Pro. It leads to nothing.

Video: no official FundingPips Free Trial video exists; its only official video covers the unrelated 1K Instant Giveaway, so we do not substitute it.

FundingPips: “Real market conditions. Real rules. No credit card, no commitment.” Pages disagree: “Unlimited trials” vs help’s “Only one trial account is allowed per user.” Each phase closes after 14 days, MT5 only. 2 Step Standard (8%/5% target, 5% daily, 10% max) or Pro (6%/6%, 3% daily, 6% max), $5K to $200K.

First paid attempt: 2 Step Pro 50K costs $249 one-time (a sitewide FP code takes 10% off new users) for $3,000 of static loss room, or $83.00 per $1,000. The funded Master stage adds a news-window deduction, a paid Swing add-on for overnight holds, and the Monthly cycle’s Striking System.

After you pass: the Master account pays on a Weekly cycle at 80% (first request 7 calendar days after the first Master trade) or a Monthly cycle at 100% (30 days plus 7 profitable days of at least 0.5%, a 35% consistency score and the Striking System). The minimum request is 1% of the account, $500 at 50K, and no payout cap is published. After ID checks, “the Responsible Trading Team reviews the trading history to confirm no violations occurred during the evaluation,” and the terms keep the right “to withhold remuneration until the risk assessment is satisfactorily completed.” Every FundingPips account is simulated: “No actual trades are executed on live financial markets.”

Trader sentiment: 4.5/5 on 69,349 Trustpilot reviews (82% five-star, 8% one-star). Praise: fast payouts, responsive support; complaints: automated terminations over device-ID matches.

What reviewers say about the trial itself: none of the first-page reviews mentions the trial, the giveaway or the competition. The homepage badge reads “4.8 rated”; Trustpilot itself shows 4.5.

  • Choose it when: You want the exact 2 Step Standard or Pro targets and static loss limits on MT5, free, before paying.
  • Watch out for: FundingPips can invite a trader to a Prime account at its discretion: acceptance “is mandatory, and you waive any right to refuse or contest it,” every Evaluation and Master account closes, and the Prime size is “not a requestable balance.” The trial never shows this or the Master-only rules.
  • US traders: No; MT5 only (“United States is NOT currently supported”).

E8 Markets Free Trial is the most faithful prop firm free trial

Verdict: The only ranked trial with “the same rules, and the same scoring” as the paid product, E8 One. It leads to nothing.

Video: “E8 One Explained: The Fastest Path to E8 Performance,” E8 Markets official YouTube channel, June 12, 2026. Source type: vendor-produced. Why selected: No official E8 free-trial video exists; this explainer covers E8 One, the product the trial mimics.

E8: “Free trial account, created in 5 seconds. No card.” The trial “mimics the same conditions as E8 One accounts,” and “You are eligible for 2 free E8 trials every 28 days,” each closed after 30 days. The size is not published. The MatchTrader trial needs Veriff ID; the E8 Terminal (crypto) trial a Google or Discord login. There is no futures trial.

First paid attempt: E8 One 50K costs $288 one-time ($260 with code E8 on a first order, no end date) for a $3,000 floor that trails the highest closed balance, or $96.00 per $1,000. The funded stage adds a 40% best-day rule, a news ban, and a floor that does not reset after a payout.

After you pass: Performance payouts are on demand at 80% (90% or 100% as a paid add-on) with no cap, but the net payout must be more than half the daily drawdown, $1,000.01 at the 50K default, and a 40% best-day rule makes three trading days the practical minimum. The drawdown level “does not reset” after a payout, so E8 itself advises leaving a buffer. Its footer says any live market trading “is conducted entirely outside the scope of E8 Funding LLC”; we found no move to a live account.

Trader sentiment: Rating hidden (breach banner) on 3,299 Trustpilot reviews (84% five-star, 9% one-star). E8’s own discount page claims “4.3 on Trustpilot,” which Trustpilot does not show. Praise: helpful support, an easy dashboard; complaints: the 1% per-trade-idea rule used to cut payouts.

What reviewers say about the trial itself: none of the first-page reviews mentions the trial.

  • Choose it when: You want to rehearse the exact rules you will pay for, on forex or crypto.
  • Watch out for: From our most trusted list: E8 may cap risk at 1% per trade idea “if we detect prohibited practices,” and two dated reviews say it cut payouts. Its KYC article says “regulated business”; its terms say it is not.
  • US traders: Yes, on MatchTrader (“US clients can utilize only TradeLocker and MatchTrader”).
  • Related pages: E8 Markets rules, E8 Markets payouts.

FundedNext Free Trial is a prop firm free trial with a discount at the end

Verdict: Repeatable at any size from $6K to $200K, and the only ranked trial that rewards a pass (a 5% code).

Video: “Free Trial Now Available On FundedNext!,” FundedNext official YouTube channel, February 15, 2024. Source type: vendor-produced. Why selected: FundedNext’s own 43-second trial announcement; dated February 2024, so use the April 2026 rules article for figures.

FundedNext: “Sign up with your email and basic details; no payment required.” One phase: 5% target, 5% daily and 10% max loss, 14 days from the first trade. One trial at a time; rejoin “every 14 days.” No ID. A pass issues a 5% code for new users, valid 14 days.

First paid attempt: Stellar 2-Step 50K costs $299.99 one-time ($269.99 on the US Match-Trader table), refunded with the first reward. Its 10% static floor gives $5,000 of loss room, so it costs $60.00 per $1,000, the lowest of any ranked first paid attempt. Two phases (8%, then 5%) become one at 5%. The trial never shows news-window profit counted at 40%, a 3% maximum risk, or Quick Strike, which ends an account if 30% of a cycle’s profit comes from trades closed within 30 seconds.

After you pass: the first reward comes 21 days after the FundedNext Account starts, then every 14 days, at 80% (90% after scale-up, 95% with a paid Lifetime add-on), with the challenge fee refunded in that first reward. Payment methods carry their own caps: USDT or USDC $1,999 where RiseWorks is available, card $3,000, bank $50,000. KYC must be done within 30 days of passing, and “All Performance Reward requests are subject to a standard compliance review.”

Trader sentiment: 4.5/5 on 80,423 Trustpilot reviews (shared with FundedNext Futures; 82% five-star, 7% one-star). Praise: helpful support; complaints: violation denials after passing.

What reviewers say about the trial itself: none of the first-page reviews mentions the trial or the competition.

  • Choose it when: You want unlimited practice and a small discount if you pass.
  • Watch out for: The trial never shows the Stellar 2-Step funded-only rules named above, nor the 30-day KYC deadline that applies once a paid challenge is passed.
  • US traders: Yes, but only on Match-Trader (“For U.S. clients only, the Free Trial Account is available exclusively on Match-Trader”).
