Compare Topstep, FTMO US, and Tradeify for U.S. eligibility, markets, platforms, account stages, costs, and risk rules using current official sources.

TL;DR: As checked July 31, 2026, Topstep is futures only on TopstepX with a simulated Trading Combine, simulated Express Funded Account, and discretionary Risk Team selection for a Live Funded Account using firm capital; FTMO US offers simulated forex pairs, 3 U.S. indices, gold, crude oil, and BTCUSD on MetaTrader 5 or TradingView, with JV Prop Corporation providing the simulated evaluation and OANDA Prop US Corporation providing the simulated Rewards Account; Tradeify offers futures through Tradovate, Rithmic, or WealthCharts, with evaluation or direct funded entry, payout-eligible Simulated Funded Accounts, and possible later live selection. All require traders to be at least 18 where specified, Topstep considers citizenship and residency, FTMO US requires legal U.S. residency or a qualifying company plus a valid U.S. tax ID, accepted U.S. bank account proof when requested, and a W-9 for rewards, and excludes entities from Arkansas, Delaware, Louisiana, Montana, and South Carolina, while Tradeify bases access on permanent residency. Tradovate connects to NinjaTrader and TradingView, Rithmic connects to Tradesea, Quantower, Sierra Chart, and R|Trader, WealthCharts uses its own connection, and changing Tradeify broker connections requires a new account. There is no universal winner, so verify current eligibility, state rules, identity and tax requirements, product access, platform connection, full costs, drawdown mechanics, payout conditions, and whether each funded stage is simulated or live before purchasing.

The best prop firms for U.S. traders are not interchangeable. A futures trader choosing Topstep or Tradeify is making a different product decision from a trader considering FTMO US. Even after product fit, residency, identity checks, platform access, account stages, drawdown, and payout rules can remove a firm from the shortlist.

This comparison uses official firm documentation checked July 31, 2026. BestProps did not open or trade these accounts for this article. Terms can change, so treat the shortlist as a source-led starting point and recheck every linked document before purchase.

Best Prop Firms for US Traders Shortlist

The three firms below met the minimum evidence standard for this comparison: a current official eligibility source, a current product or platform source, and a current account-stage disclosure. Inclusion means the documentation was sufficiently clear for comparison. It does not mean one firm is best for every trader.

Prop Firms Compared by Market and Account Stage

Topstep Prop Firm for US Futures Traders

Topstep's eligibility guidance says citizenship and residency both matter, the minimum age is 18, and sanctioned or partner-restricted countries are excluded. The United States is not on its current restricted-country tables, but a trader with another citizenship or residence should still apply the full two-part test.

Topstep is futures only and currently identifies TopstepX as its trading platform. Its program overview describes a simulated Trading Combine followed by a simulated Express Funded Account. A later Live Funded Account uses real Topstep capital, but the move is based on Risk Team selection rather than a guaranteed timetable.

Topstep is therefore a direct fit only when futures and TopstepX match the trader's workflow. A forex label or a desire to keep an outside platform should send the comparison elsewhere before price enters the decision.

FTMO US Prop Firm for Multi-Asset Traders

FTMO US states that an individual must be at least 18 and a legal U.S. resident. Its eligibility FAQ also requires a valid U.S. tax identification number to receive a reward, proof of ownership of an accepted U.S. bank account when requested, and a W-9 for the first reward payment. It currently excludes entities from Arkansas, Delaware, Louisiana, Montana, and South Carolina, while the FAQ does not state that individual residents of those states are excluded.

The firm's instrument FAQ lists simulated forex pairs, three U.S. indices, gold, crude oil, and BTCUSD. Its platform FAQ lists MetaTrader 5 and TradingView.

Account labels require extra care here. FTMO says JV Prop Corporation provides the evaluation process and OANDA Prop US Corporation provides the Rewards Account. The same disclosure says both stages use simulated trading and that participation does not create an OANDA Corporation client relationship or its customer protections.

Tradeify Prop Firm for US Futures Traders

Tradeify's country rules base access on permanent residency and specifically use a U.S. resident as an eligible example. The page also lists countries that are fully restricted and countries whose residents can use evaluation or simulated funded stages but not Tradeify's live stage.

Tradeify's platform guide says a buyer selects Tradovate, Rithmic, or WealthCharts at checkout. Tradovate credentials can connect to NinjaTrader and TradingView. Rithmic credentials can connect to Tradesea, Quantower, Sierra Chart, and R|Trader. WealthCharts uses its own connection. Tradeify warns that traders cannot switch broker connections without buying a new account.

Tradeify describes its Simulated Funded Account as trading without actual capital while remaining eligible for payouts. It says consistent performance may lead to a live account, which makes that transition possible rather than promised.

Why US Traders Should Check Prop Firm Eligibility First

Run the eligibility test before comparing coupons or account sizes. Record the firm, program, product, account stage, state of residence, citizenship when relevant, age, identity documents, tax documents, bank requirements, and platform connection.

FTMO US illustrates why state wording must be read precisely. Its current exclusion names entities from five states, not all individuals in those states. Topstep illustrates why residence alone may be insufficient because its test also considers citizenship. Tradeify illustrates why physical travel and permanent residence can be treated differently.

If the official rule is unclear for your facts, ask the firm in writing before purchasing. Save the answer with the dated rules you relied on.

Prop Firm Costs and Drawdown Rules for US Traders

Only compare costs after the product and eligibility checks pass. Build two totals: the cost of a successful attempt and the cost of a failed attempt. Include the initial purchase or subscription, resets, activation, data, platform licenses, commissions, and optional add-ons.

Then model the risk rules using your normal position size. Separate maximum drawdown from any daily loss limit, and record whether a threshold uses balance, equity, intraday highs, or end-of-day values. A low entry price can be poor value when the drawdown method conflicts with the way you trade.

Do the same for payout conditions. Record required days, thresholds, caps, consistency calculations, review steps, and the account stage that produces the payout. A fast-payout label is incomplete without those conditions.

Prop Firm Account Labels US Traders Should Check

The word funded does not identify whether orders reach a live market. In this shortlist, Topstep and Tradeify both describe simulated funded stages that may lead to live accounts. FTMO US states that its evaluation and Rewards Account remain simulated.

Read the contract and disclosure for the exact stage. Ask these questions:

  1. Are orders simulated or sent to a live market?
  2. Which entity signs the agreement for this stage?
  3. What event makes the account eligible for a payout or reward?
  4. Is a live transition guaranteed, discretionary, or not offered?
  5. Which document controls if a marketing page uses broader language?

Simulated results do not establish likely live-market performance. Execution, liquidity, slippage, and trader behavior can differ.

Prop Firm Checklist for US Traders

  1. Choose the market first: futures or simulated multi-asset products.
  2. Confirm eligibility for your residence, citizenship when applicable, and account type.
  3. Verify the contracting entity and every account stage.
  4. Confirm the broker connection, platform, data feed, and device requirements.
  5. Calculate complete successful-attempt and failed-attempt costs.
  6. Reproduce drawdown and daily-loss examples with realistic trades.
  7. Read payout, strategy, news, overnight, automation, and copy-trading rules.
  8. Save dated official documents and recheck them before another purchase.
  9. Ignore any ranking that does not show current sources and account-stage boundaries.

How BestProps Compares Prop Firms for US Traders

This article is based on official documents, not first-hand account testing. BestProps used third-party discussion only to identify common buyer questions, not to verify eligibility, payouts, or firm reliability. The BestProps editorial and AI methodology explains the research process, and the corrections policy explains how to report a disputed or stale statement.

The checked date for every firm in this comparison is July 31, 2026. Recheck the linked eligibility and account-stage pages immediately before purchase because jurisdiction, platform, and program terms can change without matching update cycles.

Prop Firm FAQs for US Traders

Which prop firm is best for US traders?

There is no universal winner. Topstep and Tradeify are futures choices with different platform models. FTMO US is a simulated multi-asset choice with a fully simulated evaluation and Rewards Account. Eligibility, product fit, rules, costs, and account structure determine the useful shortlist.

Are funded prop firm accounts live accounts?

Not necessarily. Topstep's Express Funded Account and Tradeify's Simulated Funded Account are simulated stages that may lead to live trading. FTMO US says both its evaluation and Rewards Account are simulated.

Can US traders use any trading platform?

No. Topstep currently uses TopstepX. FTMO US lists MetaTrader 5 and TradingView. Tradeify platform access depends on the broker connection selected at checkout.

How often should US eligibility be checked?

Check immediately before every purchase, reset, or new account. Recheck after a move, citizenship change, platform change, or firm notice. A prior account does not prove current access.

The practical choice is the firm whose current official documents match your location, market, platform, risk process, and preferred account structure. Evidence comes before ranking.
