TL;DR: Topstep is a futures prop firm built around the Trading Combine, followed by a simulated Express Funded Account and a separate Live Funded path. The reviewed 50K state showed a $3,000 target, $2,000 maximum loss, 50% consistency target, five-mini or 50-micro limit, and a 90% payout share claim. Pricing depends on the Standard or No Activation Fee toggle, so verify the selected checkout state before paying.

Topstep is a futures prop firm built around the Trading Combine evaluation. A trader who meets the evaluation targets without breaching the maximum loss rule can move to an Express Funded Account. Topstep describes the trading setting as simulated and pays eligible traders from the funded-account program. That distinction matters: buying power is not the same thing as a cash balance deposited into a brokerage account.

Current Topstep Trading Combine targets
The official pricing cards displayed the following evaluation limits in the rendered No Activation Fee state. The maximum loss limit is the evaluation’s stated rule. The daily loss limit appeared with Topstep’s Responsible Trading Advantage switched on; Topstep describes that limit as a safety control that stops further trading until the next market open rather than an account failure.
| Buying power | Profit target | Maximum loss limit | Contract limit | Daily loss limit shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $50K | $3,000 | $2,000 | 5 mini / 50 micro | $1,000 |
| $100K | $6,000 | $3,000 | 10 mini / 100 micro | $2,000 |
| $150K | $9,000 | $4,500 | 15 mini / 150 micro | $3,000 |
Topstep defines the maximum loss calculation as the account-balance high minus the maximum drawdown, updated at the end of each day. A trader should still read the complete Topstep rules summary and the controlling Topstep agreement before trading because evaluation, Express Funded, and Live Funded rules are not interchangeable.
How the Topstep pricing toggle changes costs
Topstep’s pricing is stateful. A static scrape can capture the Standard option while the rendered page shows No Activation Fee. Our August 6 JavaScript-rendered capture showed No Activation Fee, the Responsible Trading Advantage switched on, and a temporary discount:
| Buying power | Displayed monthly price | Displayed original price | Express activation fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| $50K | $85 | $95 | Free |
| $100K | $129 | $149 | Free |
| $150K | $199 | $229 | Free |
The page also offers a Standard option. Topstep explains that a Standard account’s one-time activation fee is paid only after the trader passes the Trading Combine. Compare total evaluation-to-funded cost rather than choosing from the lowest monthly headline. The subscription rebills until the trader passes or cancels, and the reset price can also affect total cost.
Topstep payout qualification
Passing the Trading Combine does not by itself make every profit withdrawable. The rendered page offered two payout-qualification paths:
- Standard: at least five winning trading days with $150 or more on each qualifying day, while maintaining the required balance between payouts.
- Consistency: at least three trading days with a trade on each day, while keeping the best day within 40% of total profit.
Topstep advertises payouts in as little as three days under the applicable route. Treat that as an earliest eligibility claim, not a promise that every account can withdraw after three calendar days. Payout caps, the selected qualification route, account state, rule compliance, and processing checks still apply. See the BestProps Topstep payout record for the evidence trail and current cautions.
Who Topstep may fit
- Futures traders who want a single-stage evaluation with published dollar targets.
- Traders who can manage an end-of-day maximum loss calculation and a 50% evaluation consistency target.
- Traders willing to compare the Standard and No Activation Fee paths using total cost, not just the first payment.
- Traders comfortable separating the simulated Express Funded stage from any later live-account route.
BestProps Topstep assessment
Topstep’s strongest decision feature is the relatively clear evaluation card: each account size shows its profit target, maximum loss limit, contract limit, and consistency target together. The harder part is cost and payout selection. The Standard and No Activation Fee tabs move cost between the recurring evaluation payment and the post-pass stage, while Responsible Trading Advantage changes the displayed monthly price and adds a daily loss control and payout benefits. A fair comparison therefore needs the exact toggle state, expected time in evaluation, probability of a reset, and likely payout route.
BestProps does not treat Topstep’s published payout statistics or marketing labels as a substitute for account-level verification. Check the Topstep status record for operating-state notes, the Topstep Pulse for dated changes, and Topstep deals for current promotions. A discount can improve entry cost without changing the loss and payout rules that determine whether the program fits a strategy.
Who should compare Topstep alternatives
- Traders who need forex, CFD, stock, or crypto programs rather than futures.
- Traders whose strategy conflicts with Topstep’s contract limits, loss mechanics, supported sessions, or platform workflow.
- Traders who prefer a different fee lifecycle or payout-qualification structure.
