NinjaTrader platform risk controls for prop traders. This is not a NinjaTrader account-plan page, not a standard prop-firm rules matrix, and not guidance for a NinjaTrader retail brokerage account. The checked official NinjaTrader pages explain platform risk controls that traders can map to their actual prop-firm rules: loss caps, profit targets, EOD versus real-time trailing drawdown, and manual lockout.
Platform Control Source Picker
Pick the control you need to line up with your actual prop firm’s rules. Availability can vary by firm, account type, and platform configuration.
What can trip you up

Rows To Inspect First
Use these as a setup checklist before an evaluation or funded session. The row label explains why it is here.
Account-plan source gap
The checked official sources explain platform controls, not a NinjaTrader-operated account-size matrix with payout and consistency values.
Daily loss lockout row
NinjaTrader Prop says a configured daily loss threshold can lock out new orders for the rest of the session.
EOD vs real-time row
The official risk-settings page distinguishes EOD trailing drawdown from real-time trailing drawdown that can move with intraday equity highs.
Profit-target lockout row
Daily and weekly profit targets can stop new trades after a configured goal, which can help prevent giving back a strong session.
NinjaTrader Platform Risk Controls Source Table
| Rule area | Official-source snapshot | What to verify + evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Firm rule source gap Needs firm terms |
The checked official sources describe platform/risk controls and general prop-firm rule concepts, but not a NinjaTrader-operated account plan matrix with prices, payouts, consistency percentages, or activation terms. | Use this page as a control checklist. For account-specific limits, match the controls to the actual prop firm and account type you are trading.
Source evidenceOfficial NinjaTrader sources captured July 6, 2026. The risk-settings page says availability depends on account type and firm requirements. |
| Daily loss limit Session lockout |
NinjaTrader says a daily loss limit is a hard stop based on the configured dollar amount from the day’s opening balance. When reached, no new orders can be placed until the next session. | Set the number to your actual firm/account daily loss rule. The platform control does not tell you what your firm’s daily loss should be. |
| Weekly loss limit Week reset |
The risk-settings page says weekly loss limits can work independently from or with daily caps and reset at the start of each new trading week. | Confirm your firm’s week boundary, session calendar, and whether weekly caps are allowed or locked during evaluation. |
| Profit target controls Stop after goal |
NinjaTrader says daily and weekly profit targets can lock the account from new trades once a single-session or cumulative weekly profit goal is reached. | Use this only if it fits your plan and firm rules. A platform profit target is not the same thing as a required evaluation profit target. |
| EOD trailing drawdown Closing-balance floor |
The official page says EOD trailing drawdown adjusts the floor from the account’s end-of-day closing balance and does not respond to intraday peaks. | Confirm whether the firm uses EOD trailing before selecting this control. Misreading EOD versus real-time drawdown can change how much room an open trade has. |
| Real-time trailing drawdown Intraday floor can rise |
The official page says real-time trailing drawdown adjusts as account equity reaches new highs, including unrealized gains from open positions. | This is the row to inspect if your firm counts open equity highs. A winning open trade can raise the floor before you close it. |
| Manual Lockout Voluntary control |
NinjaTrader describes Manual Lockout as a voluntary tool that lets traders lock themselves out independent of automatic thresholds. | Manual lockout can support discipline, but it does not replace a firm rule, nor does it prove that an account is compliant. |
Source notes and gaps
The official beginner guide says prop traders commonly need to study drawdown limits, profit targets, evaluation timelines, daily loss limits, max drawdowns, and consistency rules. The checked NinjaTrader risk-settings page then explains controls that can be configured to mirror those rules.
This page does not claim NinjaTrader itself sets the daily loss, payout, consistency, activation, or account-size rules for every prop firm. The practical step is to match the platform control to the firm and account you actually trade.
