We priced 18 futures prop firms the way a first-time futures trader actually pays: list price, plus activation, plus one month of market data, only on $50K products that allow micro contracts such as MES and MNQ, and only where the funded floor does not trail intraday. Twelve products rank. DayTraders.com Static 50K is cheapest at $55 ($50 plus $5, data free, $1,000 static floor), then Topstep Trading Combine 50K at $95 for one month, FundedNext Futures Flex 50K at $133.99, MyFundedFutures Builder 50K at $139, Bulenox Momentum 50K Option 2 at $143 and Tradeify Growth 50K at $145. The dearest ranked start is Apex 50K EOD at $719. Four firms (Alpha Futures, Lucid Trading, Top One Futures, Purdia Capital) publish no data price, so they are shown separately, and Earn2Trade and Take Profit Trader are cautionary because a pass leads to an intraday trailing floor. Every ranked firm except E8 Markets can move you to a live account, where data becomes your cost.

Quick picks among the best futures prop firms for beginners

  • Lowest True Beginner Cost: DayTraders.com Static 50K, $55 all-in, with a $1,000 floor that never moves.
  • Free data during the evaluation, one-time fee: FundedNext Futures Flex 50K, $133.99, where “your only cost is the initial Challenge fee.”
  • Most forgiving floor: Elite Trader Funding Static 50K, a $2,000 floor fixed at $48,000 with no daily loss limit, $584 for the first month.
  • Best platform choice for a first account: Tradeify Growth 50K, $145, with free Level 1 data on Tradovate, Rithmic or WealthCharts routes.

Why price alone misleads a futures beginner: the sticker leaves out the activation fee some firms charge when you pass, the market-data bill some firms pass on, and the floor type that decides whether a winning trade you give back can end the account. Several firms sell a cheaper intraday version next to the end-of-day one at the same or a lower price, and Bulenox sells both at exactly $143.

Futures prop firm basics for beginners, contracts, micros and data

A futures prop firm sells you an evaluation on a simulated account. Hit the profit target without touching the loss limits and you move to a funded account, usually also simulated, that can pay you a share of its profits. Unlike forex prop firms, futures firms trade exchange-listed contracts on the CME group’s four exchanges (CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX), so two costs appear that forex buyers rarely meet: exchange market data and the choice between full-size and micro contracts.

Which futures contract is best for beginners

Micro futures contracts for beginners at futures prop firms: a full size contract card beside a micro card one tenth the size
A micro contract is one tenth the size of the full contract, so every tick costs one tenth as much.

Micro contracts are one tenth the size of their full-size versions. FundedNext Futures puts it plainly: “Micro e-mini contracts are 1/10th the size of e-mini contracts,” with MES moving $1.25 per tick against $12.50 for ES, and MNQ $0.50 against $5.00 for NQ. The S&P contracts move in quarter-point ticks, four ticks to a point.

$50
One MES, 10 points
$500
One ES, 10 points
800
MES ticks in $1,000
80
ES ticks in $1,000

Worked example. The S&P 500 futures move 10 points against you. One MES contract loses 40 ticks x $1.25 = $50. One ES contract loses 40 ticks x $12.50 = $500. On DayTraders.com’s $1,000 static floor, the MES trade used 5% of your room; the ES trade used half of it. On a $2,000 floor, like most ranked products, one ES contract has 160 ticks, or 40 points, before the account ends; one MES contract has 400 points. That is why every product in our ranking had to allow micros at $50K: a beginner who can only trade full-size contracts has almost no room to learn.

Micros also cost less per trade in commissions, but not ten times less. Tradeify charges $1.82 a round trip for MES against $5.76 for ES, Bulenox $1.22 against $4.18, and Apex $1.04 against $3.10 on Tradovate. Ten micros to copy one full-size contract cost more in fees, so scale up to full-size only when your account has room.

Market data fees a futures beginner pays

Exchanges charge for real-time prices. At the evaluation stage, most futures prop firms pay for basic top-of-book data (Level 1) if you sign the exchange agreement as a non-professional. Depth of market (Level 2) is optional and usually extra: $38 a month at Topstep, $16 a month per exchange at Phidias on Rithmic. Two things turn data into a real bill. First, ticking “professional” on the agreement: Tradeify warns of a $300 monthly fee, Bulenox says “One checkbox can cost $116 a month,” and DayTraders.com quotes “$115+ per month per exchange.” Second, a live account: Topstep charges $133 per exchange beyond the one it covers, TradeDay $156 per exchange plus a $2 card fee, and Elite Trader Funding $197 per exchange. That is why True Beginner Cost includes one month of data, and why firms that publish no data figure sit in their own group.

End-of-day and intraday trailing floors for futures beginners

The floor is the balance that ends the account. A static floor never moves (DayTraders.com Static, Elite Trader Funding Static). An end-of-day trailing floor rises with your closing balance and usually locks at or near the starting balance. An intraday trailing floor follows your highest balance including open profit, in real time. Here is the difference on a $50,000 account with a $2,000 floor: you open a trade that reaches $1,000 of open profit, then give it all back and close flat. With an end-of-day floor, nothing changed, because the day closed at $50,000 and the floor stays at $48,000. With an intraday floor, the open profit lifted the floor to $49,000 and it stays there, so you lost half your room on a trade that made nothing. Take Profit Trader’s own example describes exactly this on its funded PRO account. We exclude any product whose funded floor trails intraday, for the same reason our all-markets beginners guide does.

One caution applies to every floor type: firms check the floor against your open losses in real time. Tradeify enforces its end-of-day floor “in real-time against your net liquidation value,” and FundedNext Futures says a floating loss through the limit “breaches your account instantly.” End-of-day describes how the floor moves, not when it is checked.

Cautionary firms
  1. Sources: each firm’s permitted-products list, data or platform help article, rules pages and live checkout, read October 3, 2026.
  2. Micros: a product qualifies only if the firm’s own list names micro contracts for its $50K account.
  3. Data: we take the cheapest data route the firm publishes. A firm with no data price and no sentence saying data is included goes in a separate group, shown with its price and never ranked.
  4. Floor: a product whose funded floor trails intraday on open profit, or whose daily loss limit ends the account, is excluded. Where a firm’s pages give two floor values, we show the smaller one and mark it.
  5. Rank: True Beginner Cost = list price + activation + one month of data, ascending, one product per firm (its cheapest qualifying one). Discount codes never rank.

A live call-up is something to read before buying, not a ranking reason, so it appears as the first watch-out in each firm’s review. A hidden Trustpilot rating is stated plainly and is not a ranking reason either.

Notes on this ranking: True Beginner Cost is the list price, plus any activation fee, plus one month of market data on the cheapest route the firm publishes. Every ranked product’s cheapest published data route costs $0 for a non-professional trader, so the order is set by price and activation. Codes never change a rank. No two products tie. * E8 Markets names no market-data fee anywhere. Its help centre says “All fees are one-time fees. There is no activation fee or subscription fee,” and its checkout shows no data line, so we count data at $0 and mark it. If E8 charged more than $19 a month for data, it would drop below TradeDay. Ask support before you buy. † Monthly products are priced for one billing month, which assumes you pass inside 30 days. A second month changes the order: Topstep goes to $190 (just behind TradeDay’s single month at $189), TradeDay to $378, Funded Futures Family to $388, Phidias to $477 and Elite Trader Funding to $1,168, since its $87 activation also repeats monthly. Elite Trader Funding’s one-time activation route costs $674 in month one. TradeDay’s own help table lists Fast Pass 50K at $180 while the homepage card shows $189; we use $189, and $180 would not change its place. ‡ The firm’s own pages give two different floor figures for this product, so the table shows the smaller one. Bulenox: the Momentum table gives the Master a $2,250 floor, while the general Master rules table gives $2,500 for a 50K Master. TradeDay: the funded live stage is described as keeping the evaluation’s $2,000 drawdown, while the worked example for a 50K account uses $1,500. Funded Futures Family: the Premier+ drawdown article gives $1,500 and the funded-account table gives $2,000. None of these changes the True Beginner Cost. § MyFundedFutures sells Builder 50K with a $2,000 floor at $153 and with a $1,500 floor at $139; the cheaper version ranks. At $153 it would sit between Tradeify ($145) and E8 Markets ($170). The firm’s help guide prints $125 for the $1,500 version; the checkout showed $139, which we use.

The ranked futures prop firms for beginners, reviewed

Each review leads with what sets the product apart, then the price arithmetic, the first thing to watch and when to choose it. A live call-up, where one exists, is always the first watch-out.

DayTraders.com Static 50K is the cheapest futures start for a beginner, with a floor that never moves

No product in this check costs less to start. DayTraders.com sells its Static 50K evaluation for $50 one-time and adds a $5 activation fee when you pass, and its rules table for funded accounts lists “Real-Time Data Fees ($55 value) FREE.” The firm’s non-professional FAQ adds: “Most traders are Non-Professional, which means data fees are covered.” That puts the whole first step at $55. The trade-off is the cushion. The Static plan gives you $1,000 of total drawdown on a $50,000 account, and that floor never trails, so the line sits at $49,000 on day one and on day sixty. On one MES contract ($1.25 a tick), $1,000 is 800 ticks of room; on one full-size ES contract ($12.50 a tick) it is 80.

Video: “What Is Funded Trading? How DayTraders.com Helps You Trade Without Risking Your Own Money!,” DayTraders.com official YouTube channel, October 10, 2025. Source type: vendor-produced. Why selected: DayTraders.com’s own overview of its evaluation-to-funded path; no official video covers micros or data fees.

The help centre answers the micro question in one line, “Yes, you can trade micros!”, and lists MES, MYM, MNQ, M2K, MGC, M6A, M6E, M6J and MCL. Its overview of accounts allows 10 minis or 100 micros on the 50K plan. A hard daily loss limit closes open trades that breach it and locks the account until the next trading day; it does not end the account. Trading runs through Rithmic, in R|Trader Pro or Quantower. Two other DayTraders.com products are worth knowing about only so you can avoid them: the Trail 50K ($70 plus $5) uses an intraday trailing floor, and the EOD 50K costs $105 plus $5 for a $2,000 trailing floor.

  • What you pay: $50 list plus $5 activation plus $0 data = $55. No code was active when we checked. True Beginner Cost $55.
  • Watch out for: A live call-up comes first: “Traders may be transitioned to a live account at any time based on performance and risk evaluation,” the firm says it moves around 1% of sim-funded traders, and no right to decline is published. Separately, the firm’s own help pages disagree with each other on whether any account is ever real money, and its refund policy excludes evaluation, Pro account and data fees, so buying the wrong variant cannot be undone.
  • Choose it when: You want the lowest possible first payment, you will trade one or two micros at a time, and a $1,000 cushion that never moves suits you better than a bigger one that trails.
  • Trustpilot: 4.6/5 on 495 reviews (read September 30, 2026). DayTraders.com profile.

Topstep’s no-activation Trading Combine is a $95 first month for futures beginners on its own platform

Topstep is the only ranked firm that runs every account through its own platform, TopstepX, and it pays for the basic data: “Topstep covers Level 1 market data (Top of Book) for all 4 exchanges on Trading Combine® and Express Funded Account® (XFA) accounts at no cost.” Level 2 depth is optional at $38 a month, charged immediately, rebilled on the 28th and not prorated. Two paths sell the same $50K Combine. The No Activation Fee path costs $95 a month with nothing to pay on passing; the Standard path costs $49 a month plus $149 when you earn the XFA. For a first-month pass that is $95 against $198. The no-activation path stays cheaper through three monthly cycles ($285 against $296), and Standard wins from the fourth ($345 against $380).

Video: “What Is a Topstep Express Funded Account (XFA)? | Funded Trader Payouts Explained,” Topstep official YouTube channel, May 14, 2026. Source type: vendor-produced. Why selected: Topstep’s explainer of the funded XFA stage, its payout paths and the Maximum Loss Limit described above.

Up to 50 micros or 5 minis are allowed in the $50K Combine, counted 10 to 1. The floor sits $2,000 below your balance, rises only with your end-of-day balance and locks once it reaches your starting balance; on the XFA, the first payout sets it to $0 permanently. A breach is measured on open profit and loss in real time. Positions must be flat by 3:10 PM CT, your best day should stay under 55% of the $3,000 target, so you cannot pass in one day, and the Combine charges a $3.70 simulated round-turn fee per lot to mimic real costs. Adding the optional $1,000 daily loss limit at checkout lowers the monthly price to $85 through Topstep’s Responsible Trading Discount (no code, no end date).

  • What you pay: $95 list (monthly) plus $0 activation plus $0 Level 1 data = $95 for one month. With the optional daily loss limit, $85 a month. True Beginner Cost $95.
  • Watch out for: The live call-up comes first and cannot be declined: “Once the Risk Team determines you’re ready, your options are to move to Live or close your Express Funded Account.” Only 20% of your capped XFA balance becomes tradable, and Live adds professional data fees of $133 per exchange beyond the one Topstep covers. Monthly billing also rebills until you cancel, and unnoticed renewals are a recurring Trustpilot complaint.
  • Choose it when: You want one platform, free Level 1 data at both simulated stages and a mature help centre, and you expect to pass within two or three months.
  • Trustpilot: 3.7/5 on 14,895 reviews (read October 3, 2026). Topstep rules summary.

FundedNext Futures Flex 50K is the cheapest one-time futures entry for beginners with no daily loss limit

FundedNext Futures writes the micro pitch into its own help centre: “Micro e-mini contracts are 1/10th the size of e-mini contracts,” listing MES at $1.25 a tick against $12.50 for ES. Flex 50K costs $133.99 once, the move to a funded account is free, and the firm says “your only cost is the initial Challenge fee.” Market data is assigned after you certify as non-professional in Tradovate, and it costs nothing through the Challenge and the simulated FundedNext Account. There is no daily loss limit on Flex at either stage.

Video: “How to Activate Your FundedNext Futures Account | Tradovate Setup,” FundedNext Futures official YouTube channel, August 19, 2026. Source type: vendor-produced. Why selected: FundedNext’s walkthrough of activating a futures account on Tradovate, including the non-professional market-data step that makes data free here.

Flex allows 3 minis or 30 micros at both stages, mixed at 1 to 10. The floor is $1,500, trails your end-of-day balance and locks at $50,100, and your first withdrawal locks it there too. It is still checked live: “A floating loss that breaches the MLL during a live trade breaches your account instantly.” The 40% consistency rule raises the target instead of failing you, so a $1,500 day lifts the $2,500 target to $3,750. Funded payouts need 5 Benchmark Days of $200, at least $500 of cycle profit and a $250 minimum request; you can withdraw up to 50% of profit, capped at $1,500 per request at 50K, with a 95% reward share, and the account concludes after 5 Performance Rewards. Breaking a contract limit is not account-ending; profit from the extra contracts is deducted instead.

  • What you pay: $133.99 list plus $0 activation plus $0 data = $133.99. Code FNFLEX brings it to $69.99 on your first two purchases ($79.99 from the third); no end date was shown. A reset costs $77.99. True Beginner Cost $133.99.
  • Watch out for: The live call-up comes first: after 15 Performance Rewards you enter a review pool, “Final selection is made at the sole discretion of FundedNext,” and “All active Challenge Accounts are permanently closed at the time of transition. These accounts are not eligible for any refunds.” No decline option is published for Flex. At the Live stage, professional data is paid monthly to Tradovate at an amount FundedNext does not publish. The Trustpilot profile is shared with the forex arm, and its September 2026 one-star reviews describing denied payouts do not say which arm they concern.
  • Choose it when: You want a single one-time payment, micros from the first trade, free data in both simulated stages and no daily loss limit to trip while you learn.
  • Trustpilot: 4.5/5 on 80,757 reviews (read October 3, 2026).

MyFundedFutures Builder 50K is a one-time futures plan where a beginner’s bad day pauses instead of failing

Builder is sold as a single payment. The plan page lists “Recurring Costs | None” and “No activation fee · One-time payment, no renewals,” and the checkout says “Charged once today. This plan does not renew.” The default version, with a $2,000 floor, costs $153; choosing the $1,500 Max Loss add-on takes $14 off, to $139. That cheaper version ranks here. If you want the extra $500 of room, the default costs $14 more. Either way, a $1,000 losing day is a soft stop: the plan page says it “pauses your session for the day at $1,000 down” instead of ending the account outright.

Video: “Episode 08 – MFFU Plans Explained,” MyFundedFutures official YouTube channel, July 5, 2026. Source type: vendor-produced. Why selected: MyFundedFutures’ own explainer of its plans, including Builder.

Builder allows 4 minis or 40 micros, with metal micros capped at 5 on a $50K account. The floor trails your end-of-day balance and locks permanently once it reaches $100 above the starting balance. News trading is “fully unrestricted on the Builder Plan.” On first login you sign a Tradovate market-data agreement with no fee named, and no data fee is charged in the evaluation or in sim funded. Platforms include Tradovate, NinjaTrader, TradingView through Tradovate, Quantower and several dxFeed tools.

  • What you pay: $139 list plus $0 activation plus $0 data = $139 (Default version $153). The help guide prints $87 (30% off) and $75 (40% off, two uses) for codes on Builder, and the plan page shows the Default version at $92 with code CLUB; no end date was shown. True Beginner Cost $139.
  • Watch out for: The live move comes first and cannot be refused: “Unfortunately, rejecting the move to a Live Funded Account is not possible.” After five sim payouts you move to a live account, your sim accounts go dormant, and from then on an unpublished monthly CME professional data fee plus commissions come out of the live balance. One September 29, 2026 Trustpilot review describes an account closed for 7 days of inactivi
